Welcome to the Mu Chi Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta! Commonly referred to by our nickname “Fiji”, Phi Gamma Delta exists to promote lifelong friendships, reaffirm high ethical standards and values, and foster personal development in the pursuit of excellence. We are glad you’re interested in Greek Life here at JMU and have taken the opportunity to visit our newly renovated website. Here, you can find information regarding rush, fraternity history, chapter events, and the fundamental values we live by daily as Fiji gentlemen.
Since chartering on April 1st, 1993, the Mu Chi chapter has constantly striven for excellence in every fraternal aspect, receiving numerous awards for stellar campus relations, distinguished scholarship, superior housing, and outstanding philanthropy. We, as brothers, continue to reaffirm our brotherhood by challenging each other to reach our fullest potential via academics, inter-fraternal responsibility, and personal morality.
Friendship is perhaps our most revered value as brothers, for Phi Gamma Delta holds that “Friendship is the sweetest influence.” The strength of Fiji brotherhood resonates throughout the Greek community and JMU campus, and is the true reason we excel as a chapter. In order to further this fraternal bond, we have a wide variety of brotherhood events throughout the year, be it poker nights and football, to ski trips and Wizards games. Special events are always a favorite, such as a trip to the Foxfield Races in Charlottesville or a group hike in Shanendoah National Park. In addition to the numerous brotherhood events, there are many other social events throughout the semester, including mixers with different Greeks on campus as well as date functions. And on top of all that, there is the traditional Fiji Islander Party and Frank B. Norris Pig Dinner each year!
Service is another important value we hold true, giving back whenever we can to the Harrisonburg community and non-profit organizations through service projects and philanthropic events. Our philanthropies have been consistently revered by FSL as the most impressive of any fraternity on campus. More information on our award-winning philanthropy can be found under the “Philanthropy” link in the directory.
We are a social fraternity, however we keep in mind our first priority here at college: to receive an education. Achieving academic success in college is imperative to a meaningful future. As Phi Gams, we hold each other accountable when it comes to our studies, which ends up being extremely conducive to personal academic achievement. We even offer a $250 scholarship (Academic Achievement Award) to pledges that maintain a 3.0 GPA during their pledging semester.
It is my hope that your interest in Phi Gamma Delta will continue to grow as you explore the unique advantages offered by Greek Life at James Madison University. I encourage you to take a few minutes to check out the site to learn more about who we are as a fraternity. Best of luck on your search!
